About

Our team monitors songbird behaviour and breeding activities in Tromsøya in the Arctic circle. We have over 200 nesting boxes and 6 feeding stations.

Nest boxes are occupied in spring and summer by breeding songbirds, primarily great tits, blue tits and pied flycatchers, with the occasional common redstart. In colder months our boxes are also used by great and blue tits for roosting. We measure various breeding behaviours, timing of breeding and breeding success.

Feeding stations record all bird visits year-round 24/7 through the use of cameras and sensors so we know when birds come to feed. We are particularly interested in their behaviours during polar day and polar night.
